High Priest & Prophet
Dan Schuler
|
Danny Schuler was born in
Evansville, Indiana in 1956, the son of Jerry and Jean Schuler. Dan was born with a
clubfoot and his parents were told that he would never be able to walk or compete in
athletics. Then the Shrine came into their lives and Dan became a "Shrine Kid",
and as most people who know him will say, he remained a Shrine Kid at heart. He was
treated repeatedly at the original Shrine Hospital for Children in St. Louis, undergoing
several operations and procedures.
Dan was never able to participate with his friends in baseball, football or any
other sport in which you had to run but, he loved riding motorcycles. He began riding at
the age of 5, and competing at the age of 10. In 1978, he achieved what most dirt bike
riders dream of doing by winning a gold metal for the United States in the International
Six Days Trials, the Olympics of motorcycle racing, in Sweden.
Dan and his Lady Ginny met in 1987. Between them they . |
have 5 children and 10
grandchildren; the youngest, Jay, graduated from USI in 2006.
Dan is retired from Local 37, International Association Asbestos Workers, where he
worked for 30 years. During this time, he served on the Executive Board of the Local;
taught apprenticeship classes and sheet metal layout for 10 years.
Dan is a member of the Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky Enduro Riders Association, which
club has sponsored the National Black Coal Enduro and Motocross races every year since
1968. This club has also organized the motocross races at the Vanderburgh County 4-H Fair
for the past 10 years. He is a lifetime member of the American Motorcycle Association and
the Harley Owners Group, and a charter member and the first President of Warrick County
Recreational Development. This past year, Dan became a factory mechanic for one of the
Team Suzuki off-road Riders.
In 1996, Dan became a 32nd degree Mason; joined the Scottish Rite; and joined the
Shrine. He is a member of Newburgh Lodge #174. He has served as President of the Motor
Corps., Sergeant of the Hospital Staff, 2nd Lieutenant of the Hospital Staff, and a
Hospital Staff Driver. He is a member of the No Ruz Grotto, the Swords of Bunker of Hill,
the "Hillbillies", the Hadi Coffee Club, and most recently the appointed member,
Outer Guard, on the Hadi Shrine Divan.
Dan has always wanted to be a Shriner to help those kids and thank the Shrine in
his way for giving him the opportunity to lead a full and happy life. His philosophy is
that if you want something bad enough and are willing to work for it, you'll get it~ if it
was meant to be. He believes that philosophy was instilled in him by both his parents and
the staff at the Shriners Hospital for Children in St. Louis. |
